This class is sure to supply you with many ideas for natural, home-made gifts and stocking stuffers, using the wonderful world of herbs.
Demonstrations on making sensual bath salts, tasty lip balms, holiday potpourri and teas, a spice cake made in a canning jar, and much more! Recipes and handouts always included.
An Herbal Repose
As memories of Summer warmth fade into the cold grey of winter, join us as we rekindle the warmth of the summer sun with a (morning/afternoon/evening) herbal repose.
Treat your winter weary eyes to a slide presentation of beautiful green herbs and colorful flowers, while sipping hot, tasty herbal teas. Come and learn of the healing qualities of these wonderful plants, uplift your spirits, and treat your tastebuds of an array of soothing teas.
Aromatherapy: An Introduction
Aromatherapy makes use of natural essences ans oils, extract from flowers, leaves, needles, woody parts, roots, vines and resins of plant. Inhaled, they can be mood altering and conjure memories; applied to the body many can soothe and rejuvenate the skin, relax muscles, or stimulate circulation. Preventing colds and flus, easing insomnia, enhancing your appearance and relieving stress are some of the things you'll learn to do by using aromatic essences for massage, skin care, environmental fragrancing, and baths.
Aromatherapy for Everyday Use
Aromatherapy is one of the fastest growing forms of natural healing. Plants and their essential oils have been used to heal and beautify the body for over thousands of years. Whether ingested, absorbed through the skin, or simply inhaled, plant aromas are knows to have positive and healing effects on the body, mind and emotions. We will discuss a wide variety of ways to use these essential oils including specific formulas, recipes and demonstrations on how to prepare several easy aromatic remedies and preparations. In this workshop we will learn and explore the art of herbal medicine making. Several herbal preparations will be discussed and demonstrated while we create several tools for healing including: Herbal oils, salves, teas as well as tea preparation, tinctures, linaments, lip balms and herbal pills and powders. Handouts and recipes, along with take home samples, included.
Building Your Immune System
Our miraculous immune system is the guardian of our body's basic health. It is the key to prevention of and recovery from diseases, including defending against bacteria, viruses, yeast, fungal infections, new strains of antibiotic-resistant organisms and cancerous cells, as well as the ravages of daily life including stress, pollution, disease and aging, and addressing growing threats such as lyme-disease.
In this workshop, we will explore the many ways we can strengthen and protect our immune system. This will include lecture and discussion on the uses of immune boosting herbs, nutrition and lifestyle changes, as well the importance of and programs for detoxifying your system. We will put togther an immune buinding tea and tincture to sample. Handouts included.

Herbs not only add wonderful flavors to our food but they also add many nutritional and health benefits including boosting our immunity and increasing our circulation keeping us healthier and warmer during the cooler months. I will discuss many herbs and foods that will help keep you healthier as I cook up some tasty recipes.

This class will provide you with many Do's and Don'ts to help keep you and your family healthy.
The industrial, biochemical, and bioengineering
revolutions have created conditions that have dramatically altered the ecological balance of nature.
Exposure to these toxins can break down our bodies' natural defenses against chronic diseases and illness.
In order to protect ourselves and our families we need to educate ourselves. There may be some things we have
no control over, but there are many more that we do.
In this class I will share my extensive research and not only illuminate the problems involved, but some of
the practical alternatives and choices available, in an easily accessable "do's and don'ts" format. From plastics
and fragrances in our everyday life to pesticides in our food, we will cover the spectrum of hazards, so you can
begin living a greener, cleaner, more healthful life.
Creating Women's Health
We can create health for ourselves and nurture our body, mind and spirit. In this workshop we will learn how we can create our own health as well as prevent the frequency and severity of health conditions unique to women. We will consider how to do this safely and effectively using natural home remedies, nutrition, herbs, aromatherapy, body/mind connection and more. No matter your current age, what you are or are not doing now will affect your health later on. Recent information and environmental concerns will be shared as well as a demonstration of the preparation of two women's formula herbal teas and a tincture. Samples of teas, tea tasting and handouts are included. You will leave refreshed, informed and excited about your health.
Culinary Herbal Delights with Fresh Herbs and Edible Flowers
Fresh herbs and flowers are alive, using them brings a fresh energy not only to the foods they are added to, but also to the people who consume them. Herbs not only add wonderful fragrance and taste, but also nutrition, adding a wide variety of nutrients which add to our overall health and also reduces the need for salt, another health benefit.
In this workshop we will learn about several herbs and flowers that add wonderful fragrance, taste and color to our foods, and then we will create an experience of the visual, sensual and of course taste of several delightful dishes.
Come experience and savor an afternoon healthy herbal eating at its best. An additional materials fee is required. Recipes included.

Hands on Herbal Preparation: Make 'em and Take 'em Home!
Making and using your own herbal preparations is not only rewarding and cost-effective, but it is not as difficult as it may sound. In this workshop we will learn and explore the art of herbal medicine making. Several herbal preparations will be discussed and demonstrated while we create several tools for healing including: Herbal oils, salves, teas as well as tea preparation, tinctures, linaments, lip balms and herbal pills and powders. Reading all the herb books can't match actual hands-on herbal experience. This workshop will be an afternoon of hands-on experience as you learn to capture the healing essence of the herbs for your personal use. Information, instruction and demonstration will be given, and then we break into groups. Everyone will go home with a tea, tincture, healing salve, lip balm, bath salts, and of course recipes. Participants should bring one pint of 80 to 90 proof vodka, unless they prefer to make a vinegar tincture. An additional $10.00 for materials fee is required. Handouts and recipes, along with take home samples, included.
Harvesting the Herbal Garden
Many gardeners find it difficult to say goodbye to the blooms and foliage that they have nurtured and enjoyed throughout the growing season. In this workshop, we will explore through lecture, discussion, demonstratoin and taste, the many ways to use and preserve the color, flavors and aromas of your favorite herbs for the long winter ahead. The basics of harvesting, drying, freezing and storage of herbs will be covered. We will blend herb mixes and seasonings for winter meals, for teas by the fireplace, to please and heal, as well as blends for potpourri to scent the home. The workshop concludes with tips on putting your garden to bed for its long winter nap, and of course to taste what we have created.

Healing Herbs II: More Herbs and their uses, in depth
Herbs have been used since the beginning of time, for nourishment and healing. Nature provides us with the tools to help and work with your body's ability to heal itself. In this workshop we will discuss in detail the healing qualities of 10 common and not so common herbs for everyday ailments and lifelong concerns. We will explore herbs for first aid, detoxification, protection, weight loss, digestive health, circulatory health, and more. Information will also be given for growing some of these herbs yourself. Within the plant kingdom are safer, cheaper and far more beneficial alternatives. Handouts and take-home samples included.
Herbal Body Care
Nature has rewarded us with a multitude of all-natural, wholesome ingredients with which to create a variety of products to both cleanse and nourish your skin, hair and nails. In this afternoon workshop, we will learn about the herbs that heal and soothe, and discuss the ingredients we will be using. Then a demonstration of how to prepare massage oils, bath salth, lip balm, lotion and moistureizer, and more will be given. The benefits of creating your own personal care products are many, most importantly is that you will be contributing to keeping yourself and the Earth healthier and greener. Homemade cosmetics contain no toxic chemicals to pollute, require no animal testing, and the packaging can be recycled. Recipes and take-home samples included.
Herbal First Aid: A Holistic Medicine Chest
Nature provides us with many safe and effective herbs for our own healing. Through lecture and domonstration, we will examine not only the most useful herbal remedies for everyday first aid needs but also those handy for when you travel. Preparations for herbal teas, powders, linaments, tinctures, herbal pills, and salves will be demonstrated. Handouts and recipes always included.

Since the dawn of time, humans have turned to plants for healing. Nature provides us with an inexhaustable variety of healing and nourishing herbs from which the body is able to repair and heal itself. This class is for those who seek alternatives to the costly, sometimes damaging side effects of medications and over-the-counter drugs. We will explore the many natural remedies for everyday ailments and health issues. From cuts and bruises, colds and flu, sinusitis and headaches, to chronic ear infections, water retention, lyme disease and antibiotic-resistant staph infections, we will also address stress and sleep problems and liver imbalances. Some herbal preparation will be demonstrated, handouts included.
Herbal Stress Control: Herbs for the Nervous System
The world we have created for ourselves is overflowing with stress of all kinds. Most people do not realize that stress can cause damage to our health and well being. As the veritable crisis of stress related problems attackes us from all sides, whether it is physical, emotional or environmental, we can turn safely to herbs to help us.
In this workshop, we will discuss the nervine herbs: tonics for strengthening and nourishing the nervous system, relaxants designed to relax and aleviate many accompanying symptoms of stress, and hypnotics which induce a healing sleep. We will also discuss antispasmotics, stimulants and most importantly, adaptogens which increase our body's resistance to all types of stress and help to prevent physical damage. Included will be a demonstration of making a nervine tea and tincture, and sampling of the tea. Take-home handouts included.
Landscaping with Herbs
Herbs, once grown exclusively for their fragrance, flavor, curative and other useful properties, are among the most popular plants in todays gardens. For gardeners who love herbs for their mystical qualities as well as their practical ones, the great news is that herbs make wonderful additions to the ornamental garden. In this workshop, we will discover ways to integrate herbs into the landscaped garden and yard. We will cover such topics as the scented garden, the grey and silver garden, the blue garden, the humming bird and the kitchen garden. We will discuss container gardening, formal and informal gardens, as well as herbs for rock gardens and walkways. Join us in this adventure and explore the opportunities herbs offer for your own garden. Handouts included.
Lyme Disease: Prevention and Natural Treatment
Lyme Disease is becoming a huge problem. It is often misdiagnosed and can be difficult to treat. However, there are some herbs out there that may be able to help. Everyone out there needs to be informed about this disease. I will provide general information about the disease as well as possible symptoms, and will share some preventative measures, and ways you can boost your immune system so you are less likely to contract the disease. Additionally I will provide a core protocol that when used along with antibiotic therapy will increase the liklihood of a positive outcome. These herbs can also help if antibiotics either did not work, or were given too late, and they can decrease the incidence of post-lyme disease syndrome or chronic lyme.
The Healing Garden
The garden is a special place to cherish smells, shapes and colors. The herb garden can yield plants which will provide you with nutrition, comfort and healing. In this workshop, we will discuss commonly used plants and easy to grow herbs, their healing benefits, uses and growing requirements, to aid you in creating or enlarging your own herbal garden. During the season, the actual plants will be available for viewing, during off-season presentations, slides will be presented.
The Herbal Tea Garden for Pleasure and Healing
Growing and using herbs that heal and nourish can bring us closer to nature. Herbal teas not only make delicious and healthful alternatives to coffee and soda. They also offer a myriad of nutritious and healing benefits. From relieving indigestion and migranes, to soothing restless babies and stressed-out adults. In this class we will cover the growing, harvesting and storage of easily grown herbs, whether you have a windowsill area, or a large garden. Along with discussion of individual tea herbs, there will also be a chance to personally experience many herb plants as they are passed around. There will also be demonstration and instruction of how to blend beverage and healing teas, as well as the proper methods of tea brewing. We'll end with a tea tasting to sample the teas we've blended. Handouts included.
Mediterranean Cooking with Herbs
The Mediterranean is known for it's aromatic, fresh and flavorful style of cooking. I will talk about the many health benefits of the foods and herbs as I cook up some healthy recipes using a delightful array of their native herbs.
Windowsill Herb Gardening: Bring the Joy Inside.
The joy of using and growing herbs does not have to end with the onset of winter. This workshop will explore the delights of growing herbs inside. We will discuss the basics of light requirements, containers, watering, germination and harvesting, as well as the many herbs from which to choose for your own windowsills. We will also explore their folklore, culinary, and household uses, and healing aspects. Participants will plant three pots of herbs of their choice to take home and enjoy.
Winter Herbal Health
The winter season can bring a variety of colds, flus and other respiratory infections. In this class, we will explore natural ways of building the immune system through the use of herbs and foods. We will examine these uses for both prevention as well as for ways to regain health after an infection sets in. Specifics will be given for treatment of many ailments including ear and sinus infections, and sore throats. Methods of various winter herbal preparations will be demonstrated. Learn what you can do to build up your body and strengthen your immune system now to prepare for the winter ahead, so you'll be less likely to catch that new flu that's going around! We'll also cover remedies just in case you or someone you know does. Handouts included.
